👥🌾 How to Start Local Co-Op in Stardew Valley | Split-Screen Multiplayer Guide
Want to play Stardew Valley with a friend on the same screen? Local co-op (split-screen) lets multiple players play together on one PC or console.
🌾 1. Make Sure You Have a Cabin
Each extra player needs a:
🏠 Cabin
If your farm doesn't have one:
🔨 Visit Robin's Carpenter Shop
🏠 Build a Cabin
Cabins are required for additional players to join.
🎮 2. Connect a Controller
Plug in:
🎮 Xbox Controller
🎮 PlayStation Controller
🎮 Switch Pro Controller
Each extra player needs a controller. On PC, Player 1 can use keyboard and mouse.
⚙️ 3. Open the Options Menu
While in your farm:
📋 Open Menu
Then go to:
⚙️ Options
👥 4. Start Local Co-Op
Scroll down to:
👥 Multiplayer
Select:
▶️ Start Local Co-Op
This will activate split-screen mode.
🎮 5. Have Player 2 Join
The second player should press:
▶️ Start / Menu / + Button
on their controller.
Their farmer will join the farm and a split-screen view will appear.
🆕 Starting a New Co-Op Farm
From the title screen:
👥 Co-Op → Split Screen
Choose the number of:
🏠 Cabins
before creating the farm so other players can join immediately.
💡 Helpful Tips
✔️ Up to 4 players can play together on supported platforms.
✔️ Existing farms can be converted into co-op farms by building cabins.
✔️ Local co-op and online co-op can be combined in some cases.
✔️ If a controller isn't detected on PC, enabling Steam Input may help.
