movie story, short liner
In 2004, the satellite detected a mysterious thermal bloom under an island about 1,600 km off the coast of Antarctica. A wealthy industrialist Charles Bishop Wayland (Lance Henriksen) discovers through thermal imaging that a pyramid is buried 200 feet (610 m) beneath the ice. He tries to assemble a team of experts to investigate. The team includes archaeologists, linguists, diggers, mercenaries and a guide named Alexa "Lex" Woods (Sana Lathan).
When a marauding ship reaches Earth's orbit a team arrives at a whaling station above a heat source, finding a completely unnatural tunnel that flows directly under the ice to the pyramid. Wayland shows the team satellite images that show the crossing was not there 24 hours ago. The exploration team descends the tunnel and finds the mysterious pyramid and begins to explore, soon finding evidence of a prehistoric civilization and what appears to be a sacrificial chamber filled with human skeletons.
