Why do these trucks hide a wheel?
This hydraulic device has been used to bypass certain dynamic axle weighing (WIM) systems, which measure loads as vehicles pass over them.
The auxiliary wheel allows for temporary changes in load distribution, which can skew the results of some installations.
⚠️ This technique is only applicable to certain types of weighing. It is notably ineffective on a conventional weighbridge when all the truck's wheels are resting on the platform.
This device was actually discovered during roadside checks in China. Its use to circumvent overload checks is illegal and dangerous.
