Welcome back to Skillset Studio! In today’s video, I’m Sylvia, and we’ll be diving into some powerful filtering operators in MySQL: IN, BETWEEN, and LIKE. If you’ve already watched our previous video on the AND, OR, and NOT operators, this is the perfect next step in leveling up your SQL skills.
We’ll cover:
IN Operator: Learn how to check if a value matches any value from a list of possibilities. It’s a great alternative to multiple OR conditions.
BETWEEN Operator: Find results within a specific range. We'll use this for filtering by hourly rate, but it works for any numeric or date range.
LIKE Operator: Perfect for pattern matching, especially when you're looking for data that fits a specific pattern (like names starting with a certain letter).
After going over the theory, we’ll jump into some practical tasks where you’ll:
Use the IN operator to find employees in Marketing and Production departments earning below $50 per hour.
Use the BETWEEN operator to filter employees with hourly rates between $50 and $60.
Use the LIKE operator to find employees whose names start with "B" and are at least four characters long.
Grab your laptop and SQL editor, and let’s get started!
