▬▬▬▬ Video Transcript ▬▬▬▬

Hey everyone, it’s Matt! In this video, I’m going to show you how to set auto updates for your plugins in WordPress.

I’m currently on my dashboard for my filmmaking lifestyle site, and I’ll guide you through the process step-by-step. First, let’s find the plugins menu.

You can locate it on your sidebar. Keep in mind that your sidebar might look different from mine, but just look for the “Plugins” option.

Once you’ve opened it, I have my active plugins displayed. Now, to enable auto updates, you can do it for each plugin individually or in bulk.

If you want to enable auto updates for just a few plugins, select the checkboxes next to the ones you want to update. Then, go to the “Bulk Actions” dropdown menu, select “Enable Auto Updates,” and click “Apply.” This process typically takes about 30 seconds, and you’ll see that the selected plugins will now have auto updates enabled.

If you have many plugins, like I do, you can select all of them at once. Just click the checkbox at the top of the list, which will highlight all the plugins.

Then, go back to “Bulk Actions,” choose “Enable Auto Updates,” and hit “Apply.” This way, you won’t have to worry about manual updates anymore; all your plugins will automatically update when new versions are released. However, I need to mention some risks involved with auto updates.

Certain plugins, especially those that make significant changes to your site—like Elementor—can potentially break your site with an update. This is particularly true for plugins that alter CSS, JavaScript, or the overall visual functionality of your site.

If you have auto updates enabled for these types of plugins, you might not notice a problem until it’s too late, especially if you don’t check your site frequently. That’s why I don’t enable auto updates for all 32 of my plugins.

It’s essential to be cautious and check your site regularly to ensure everything is functioning correctly. Your experience may vary, but that’s a quick overview of how to enable auto updates for your WordPress plugins.
