Not that long ago someone told me I shouldn't post my jump rope technique to YouTube because it was rubbish. They weren't quite as polite about it, though!

I completely disagree. That I shouldn't post, that is.I did make clear in that video, as I always do, that I'm not the best at jump rope. I just like it. And I highly recommend it - because I've gotten a bunch of benefits from it. And I'm not thaaaat bad!

It seems being less than amazing at an exercise makes some people mad. (And it's ironic, because those people often aren't as good as they think, either :-P).

This same attitude exists in gyms, a lot of the time. To the point where no one will hit the heavy bag unless they're Bruce Lee - because they don't want to be judged. "What do they think they're DOING doing hitting the bag like that?"

If you can think of a fitness content creator who seems to be brilliant at everything they post - who never gets injured, never gets tired, and who performs incredible lifts perfectly, ever time... Well then there's only one of two explanations:

They aren't being entirely transparent and they ONLY show the stuff they're good at. Even if that's 5% of their actual training footage.
They never try anything new and are simply staying in their comfort zone.

I can say this with certainty, because no one does everything perfect the first time they do it!

But learning new skills - being rubbish at them to start with - should actually make up the MAJORITY of your training. This is the fun stuff. And this is where you get the biggest gains from. It prevents you from getting stale.

Those same people - who only practice what they are good at - are the ones who will say "why should I care about cardio?" or "mobility training is a waste of time." It's an ego defence mechanism.

More useful than protecting your ego, is actually playing around and getting better at stuff.

It's okay to be sh*!
