How to create an IAM Group on AWS
Step 1: Log in to the AWS Management Console
Go to the AWS Management Console and log in with your credentials.
Step 2: Navigate to IAM (Identity and Access Management)
In the AWS Management Console, search for IAM in the search bar, or click on Services in the top menu and find IAM under the Security, Identity, & Compliance section.
Step 3: Access the "Groups" Section
In the IAM dashboard, look on the left sidebar and click on Groups under the Access management section.
Step 4: Click on "Create New Group"
Once you’re on the Groups page, click the Create New Group button.
Step 5: Name Your Group
Enter a meaningful name for your IAM group. Choose a name that reflects the group’s purpose, like Developers, Admins, or ReadOnlyUsers.
Step 6: Set Permissions for the Group
You’ll be prompted to Attach Policies to the group. These policies define the permissions for users within the group. AWS provides a variety of managed policies (e.g., AdministratorAccess, PowerUserAccess, AmazonS3ReadOnlyAccess), or you can create a custom policy.
Search for and select the appropriate policies based on the level of access you want to provide the group. You can select one or more policies.
Step 7: Review and Create
After selecting the permissions, click Next: Review.
Review your group details and the attached policies. If everything looks good, click Create Group to finalize the creation process.
Step 8: Add Users to the Group
Once the group is created, you can add existing IAM users to the group by going to the Users section in IAM.
Select the users you want to add, click on Add users to group, and then select the newly created group.
Step 9: Confirm the Group Setup
After adding users, the group will appear on the Groups page, and you can see the list of users and permissions associated with it.
Now your IAM group is set up, and any users in the group will inherit the permissions you assigned. This simplifies managing access to AWS resources and ensures better organization of users.
