While you scrape away,
A nameless apprehension
Stalks your mind
Whether
Web scraping is legal…
Or
Am I inviting legal trouble???

Not to worry.
Just understand a few things.
To start with…
Web scraping,
Also known as web data extraction
or web harvesting
Is a technique to extract
Large amounts of data From websites

It is then saved to a local file
On your computer or
To a database in table format
It is a widely used technique
and almost everyone seems to be using it…

Wondering
how to avoid legal trouble?
Here’re a few guidelines to follow:

1. Consider robots.txt
before you scrape data, It will define legality of your plan for you.

2. Use a conservative crawl rate.
Maybe 1 request per 10-15 seconds
Or don’t hit the servers too frequently

3. Use an API if provided, Avoid scraping data in that case.

4. Don’t violate the Terms of Use of the site

5. If scraping public data, nothing to worry!

6. Content not under copyright? ,Nothing to worry about scraping

7. Don’t gather sensitive user information

8. Adhere to fair use standards

9. Identify your scraper with a legitimate user agent string, Create a page that explains, What you are doing and why.
Link back to the page in your user agent string.

10. Don’t republish that you scrape or its derivative dataset without verifying the license or without obtaining written permission

11. Don’t indulge in it, if you are not sure or seek legal advice

12. If ToS or robots.txt prevents you From crawling or scraping, Ask for a written permission before doing anything

If you follow these guidelines,
