Farmers need fertilizer regardless of which crops they grow, making demand structurally important. EARNINGS
Negative: Mosaic is facing sulfur shortages and high prices, forcing production cuts at phosphate facilities in the U.S. and Brazil. Further curtailments and higher costs are expected in Q3.
Positive: Mosaic secured Q3 sulfur at about $705 per ton, below current spot prices. Meanwhile, tight global phosphate supply and lower Chinese exports are supporting phosphate prices.
Negative: Fertilizer demand is expected to weaken, with phosphate application forecast to decline about 20% in North America and 30% in Brazil, putting pressure on Q3 volumes and earnings.
Positive: Mosaic is cutting costs, with SG&A down 20% year over year, reducing 2026 capital spending to $1.2 billion, and targeting a $300–$500 million working-capital release to strengthen second-half cash flow.
Positive: Potash demand remains healthy, with Mosaic’s summer-fill program fully subscribed. The company also expects Mosaic Biosciences revenue to double again this year while continuing to optimize its portfolio.
Now, here’s what the news has to say about Mosaic MOS
StockTwits: Mosaic has been under pressure from soaring sulfur costs and disruptions in phosphate production. Earlier this year, the company withdrew its 2026 phosphate-production guidance and curtailed output at facilities in Louisiana and Florida. The company also cut its 2026 capital-expenditure plan to $1.25 billion from $1.5 billion.
Investing.com: The latest earnings picture remains challenging. Mosaic's second-quarter 2026 adjusted EPS came in at 13 cents versus 16 cents expected, while revenue was $2.8 billion versus a $3.05 billion consensus. Sulfur costs jumped sharply, with third-quarter contracts around $705 per long ton versus $522 in the second quarter, putting additional pressure on phosphate margins.
Investing.com: Wall Street is taking notice. Freedom Broker downgraded Mosaic from Buy to Sell and slashed its price target from $32 to $17, pointing specifically to deteriorating fertilizer-market cost conditions. That's a major shift in the investment case.
Stock Titan: On the balance-sheet front, there is some potentially more constructive news. Mosaic completed cash tenders for four debt issues. It accepted about $395 million of 2027 notes, $38.9 million of 2028 debentures and $275.9 million of 2028 notes. The 2029 notes were oversubscribed, resulting in only about 37.78% of tendered notes being accepted.
