Welcome to Skillset Studio! In today's video, I'm going to show you how to efficiently combine multiple Excel files and sheets into one using R. While Power Query Editor is a great option, R offers a more automated and scalable solution, especially if you need to repeat the process regularly. Whether it's daily, weekly, or monthly, you’ll be able to run a script and get your results instantly!

🔧 What You'll Learn in This Video:

How to install and load the necessary R packages (readxl, writexl, dplyr)
Import Excel files into R
Combine multiple sheets from multiple Excel files into one dataset
Save the combined data into a new Excel file
Automate the process to save you time when you need to repeat the task.

Step-by-Step Breakdown:
1. Install the required R packages
2. Import your Excel files into R
3. Combine sheets from multiple files using lists and the bind_rows() function
4. Save the combined dataset to a new Excel file
5. Apply basic formatting to your final result

I'll demonstrate the process using an example with three Excel files and show you how to add more files with the same structure.

💡 Resources:
Links to install R and RStudio are in the video description below.

Installing RStudio: posit.co/download/rstudio-desktop/

The R script code is also available for easy copy-pasting into your project.

#1. Load necessary libraries
library(readxl) # For reading Excel files
library(writexl) # For writing Excel files
library(dplyr) # For merging data frames

#2. Define the file names for the two Excel files
file1 = "example1.xlsx"
file2 = "example2.xlsx"

#3. Read all sheets from both Excel files into a list of data frames
sheets_file1 = lapply(excel_sheets(file1), function(sheet) read_excel(file1, sheet = sheet))
sheets_file2 = lapply(excel_sheets(file2), function(sheet) read_excel(file2, sheet = sheet))

#4. Combine all sheets into one data frame
combined_data = bind_rows(sheets_file1, sheets_file2)

#5. Save the combined data to a new Excel file
write_xlsx(combined_data, "combined_data.xlsx")
