I think something we should all keep in mind during training, is that muscle is for movement. The purpose of muscle (for the most part) is to move or stabilize joints.
This mays seem obvious, but many people don't approach their training in this way. The movement is simply the means to an end - the end being to build muscle that looks good. Or that makes us better at a particular lift.
If you go back to the drawing board and think of designing your training specifically to facilitate healthy and interesting movement, then it turns your whole approach on its head. Suddenly, mobility becomes a lot more important (balanced with strength). Stability becomes important, too. We need to practice skills and build proprioception. And we can't ignore muslces or movement patterns just because they're not easy to see.
And, assuming that "movement" includes things like running, jumping, climbing, and boxing... we also need endurance.
Variety becomes more important. Repeating the same few movements over and over again only leads to stagnation.
In fact, the best way to build muscle for movement is to move often and in a variety of ways. With just a little more intensity than you normally would.
The best part? This is a really fun way to train!
