This edit seem familiar to you? If it does: congrats, you’re as big a nerd as me…

This is a little sequence from an upcoming video about sprinting. Sprinting is absolutely one of the most effective training tools in your repertoire, if you’re interested in body recomposition and athleticism.

This is a truly FULL body movement and one that is also highly explosive. You might think of it as a leg exercise but you’ll also be training shoulders, pecs, core, and back to a huge extent. I should know - I was sore all over after this shoot!

It ALSO develops ankle stiffness and the “spinal engine.” The full video will explain why these properties are SO important for athletes.

Sprinting is the fastest method we have to move from point A to point B. It’s a skill you could genuinely need some day and if you don’t practice it, you’ll lose it.

It’s also a LOT of fun. Blasting through the hills with Liam, filming this, was epic. Especially the fast downhill running!

What’s more: that explosiveness and max effort makes this an anaerobic activity and activates the fast twitch muscle fibre. Again, this translates to real performance in a host of skills.

Fun fact! Although you’ll hear people say that sprinting “only” uses the fast twitch muscle fibre, the truth is that it also actually uses slow twitch fibres. This is due to Henneman’s Size Principle that tells us you CAN’T activate the large motor units without first activating the smaller motor units.

And that means you can actually improve your running speed further by training specifically to target the slow-twitch fibres, as well.

For much more on all this, and the best way to add sprints into your training diet, stay tuned for the full YouTube video!
